Former Democrat Micah Jones to Face Democrat in November for Open Massachusetts House Seat
Micah Jones, who served in Afghanistan and later became an attorney, is the Republican nominee for Massachusetts's 6th congressional district. The seat opened after Rep. Seth Moulton opted to run for Senate instead of reelection. Jones will face voters on Nov. 3 after an unopposed primary.

Micah Jones, a Republican candidate who previously identified as a Democrat, is running for Massachusetts's 6th congressional district in a contest for a seat open for the first time in 47 years. Fox News reported that Jones served in the 82nd Airborne Division and deployed to Afghanistan from 2014 to 2015. He later attended law school and became an attorney.
Jones said doubts about the Democratic Party's direction began in 2016 during law school. He left the party and became an independent afterward. Jones stated he is center-right, especially on fiscal issues.
He noted that Massachusetts has two Democratic senators and nine Democratic members of Congress, and he believes the state loses federal funding because of their approach to the Trump administration. Rep. , announced he would pursue a Senate seat rather than seek reelection.
Moulton last won reelection with 62.9% of the vote to 35.2% for Republican challenger Robert May Jr. Jones is running unopposed in the Sept. 1 primaries and will advance to the general election on Nov.
3. He pointed to past Republican governors including Mitt Romney, Bill Weld, and Charlie Baker as models for success in the state. Jones said 63% of Massachusetts voters are registered independents and estimated another 15% to 20% care primarily about candidate quality.
