A former prison guard who worked at the federal Metropolitan Corrections Center in New York testified Monday that Jeffrey Epstein received special treatment while held there in 2019, two members of the House Oversight Committee said. Democratic Reps.

Suhas Subramanyam of Virginia and Melanie Stansbury of New Mexico said Tova Noel told the panel that Epstein was given extra bed linens and a CPAP machine and had access to medications in a way no one else did. Subramanyam said he believes Epstein was treated differently from other inmates.

Subramanyam said he fully believes Epstein died by suicide but noted open questions about how that occurred. He asked why Epstein received extra linens that he later used to hang himself after a prior suicide attempt a month earlier. Noel also addressed cash deposits totaling $12,000 between April 2018 and July 2019.

Stansbury said Noel stated the transfers had nothing to do with Epstein and that she believes her termination was unfair.

M. on Aug. 9, 2019. That was the last time any officer approached the tier, according to the report. Noel was charged in 2019 with falsifying records to show required prisoner checks had been performed. The charges were later dropped after she reached a deal with prosecutors. Grand jury transcripts released earlier this year showed the FBI found no evidence of a bribe in her bank records.
