Former Healthcare Worker Cautioned Over Attempt to Sell Princess of Wales Medical Records

A former healthcare worker has been issued a formal caution by data protection authorities after attempting to access and sell medical records of Catherine, the Princess of Wales. The Information Commissioner's Office opened a criminal investigation in March 2024 after receiving a report that a staff member at the London Clinic tried to view the princess's notes while she was receiving abdominal surgery there.

The watchdog described the actions as deliberate misuse of highly sensitive personal information with an offer to disclose the material for financial gain. Officials said no evidence emerged of wider problems at the healthcare facility. A spokesperson for the London Clinic stated the matter was an isolated incident and confirmed there were no regulatory breaches by the hospital.

The Information Commissioner's Office determined that issuing a caution represented the appropriate enforcement step in the case.
