Former KBO Pitcher Go Woo-suk Rejects Offer to Return to LG Twins
South Korean pitcher Go Woo-suk has decided to remain in the U.S. minor leagues with the Detroit Tigers instead of rejoining his former team, the LG Twins. The Twins announced that Go informed them of his choice to continue pursuing a major league career. This follows a meeting between Go and the Twins' general manager last week.
yna.co.krSEOUL, May 5 - Former LG Twins pitcher Go Woo-suk has rejected an offer to return to his South Korean club and will stay in the U.S. minor leagues. The LG Twins stated that Go, currently with the Detroit Tigers' Double-A affiliate Erie SeaWolves, recently told the team he wants to keep pursuing his major league goals. The announcement came on Tuesday.
Twins general manager Cha Myeong-seok met with Go last Thursday in the United States to discuss a potential return. Go informed the official that he would remain in the minors. The Twins said they have decided to respect Go's decision. The team had sought to bring Go back after reliever You Young-chan, who replaced Go as closer in 2024, suffered an elbow injury last week.
Go, 27, was a two-time All-Star in the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) and led the league with 139 saves from 2019 to 2023. He signed with the San Diego Padres in January 2024 but was traded to the Miami Marlins in May of that year without appearing in Major League Baseball.
Go reached Triple-A in the Marlins system before being released in June 2025. The Tigers then signed him to a minor league deal later that month.
Go spent the remainder of 2025 with the Tigers' Triple-A team, the Toledo Mud Hens, posting a 4.29 ERA in 14 outings. He became a free agent in November 2025 and signed another minor league contract with the Tigers a month later. After pitching for South Korea in the World Baseball Classic in March 2026, Go has appeared in 10 outings across Triple-A and Double-A levels for the Tigers.
He has a 2.40 ERA with 24 strikeouts in 15 innings.
