Former lawmaker Chae Yi-bae was named the new chief of staff to Prime Minister Han Seong-sook, her office said Friday. Chae, 51, served as a member of the National Assembly from 2016 to 2020 and worked as special assistant to the prime minister for fair economy in 2021 under then Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum.
A certified public accountant, he graduated from Korea University and completed master's degree coursework at the same university's school of law.
The appointment takes effect Saturday. Yonhap reported that the prime minister's office said Chae is expected to assist in supporting the recovery of people's livelihoods and achieving artificial intelligence transformation and green transformation.
