Former National Guard Soldier Pleads Guilty to Shooting Death of Army Sergeant in Domestic Dispute

Landry faces a minimum of 10 years and up to life in federal prison, according to federal prosecutors. His sentencing date has not yet been set. The shooting occurred on the morning of December 14, 2024.
Landry was at drill duty earlier that morning and went to the woman’s home during a break, according to a probable cause arrest affidavit. A witness told authorities that Landry noticed a black truck parked in front of the apartment and asked who owned the vehicle. Suspecting another man was at the residence, Landry barged inside and went upstairs to a bedroom.
Stewart was dating the woman at the time. The woman stated that she and Stewart were sleeping when she heard a commotion. Two children were present in the apartment at the time of the shooting. Landry, who was aware Stewart was unarmed, shot him once in the chest.
Stewart was pronounced dead. The woman told investigators that Landry was jealous of Stewart. After the shooting, Landry fled the residence and the military base. He was arrested during a traffic stop on Interstate 85 by the Meriwether County Sheriff’s Office.
Landry threw the gun out of the window during the traffic stop. Deputies recovered the weapon, and testing confirmed it was used in the shooting. Landry admitted to the shooting in a Mirandized interview.
