Former representative declines to commit to voting for House Democratic leader as speaker

Bush said the question of leadership is not on her mind at present. She added that she is focused on obtaining what her community needs because the current representative is not delivering for St. Louis.

She was part of a group of progressive members and voted for the current leader on all speaker ballots in 2023. She lost her 2024 primary amid campaign finance allegations and outside spending.

Current campaigns Bush is among several progressives running well-funded campaigns against more moderate Democratic incumbents. Some recent primary winners have already defeated sitting representatives. Democratic officials have expressed confidence that progressive members will support the current leader for speaker despite criticism of party leadership.
