Former rugby league halfback Scott Dureau died at age 39 after a long battle with brain cancer, Abc reported. The Catalans Dragons confirmed his death on the night of July 20. Dureau played 42 games over four seasons with the Newcastle Knights and 97 games over four years with the Catalans Dragons.
He earned selection to the British Super League Dream Team in 2011 and 2012, and won the Albert Goldthorpe Medal in 2012. He retired from playing in 2015 after a tumor was removed from behind an eye and later took a coaching role with the Newcastle Knights. Abc reported he had been battling cancer for more than a decade.
The Catalans Dragons described Dureau as an "exceptional player" whose "humility and kindness" would remain etched in memories. The club extended condolences to his wife Libby and daughters Imogen and Everly.
