Former San Beda Guard JV Gallego Dies at 28 After Road Accident
John Vincent Gallego died Saturday when his vehicle struck a concrete barrier on the North Luzon Expressway. The 28-year-old had played college basketball for National University and San Beda before coaching at Colegio San Agustin Makati.

Former San Beda University guard John Vincent “JV” Gallego died Saturday at age 28 after his vehicle crashed into a concrete barrier on the North Luzon Expressway while he was driving back to Manila. Meycauayan City Police Station chief Melvin Florida confirmed the details to ABS-CBN News. Gallego’s family also posted confirmation of his death on social media.
Gallego stood 5 feet 10 inches tall and played briefly for the Bicol Volcanoes in the MPBL in 2024. He had been a member of San Beda’s NCAA Season 99 championship team in 2023. Before that he suited up for the National University Bulldogs in the UAAP from seasons 78 through 82 after committing to the program as a Chiang Kai Shek College high school standout in 2015 under then-coach Eric Altamirano.
He also represented Gilas Pilipinas Youth at the 2016 FIBA Asia U18 Championships. At the time of his death Gallego served as head coach of the Colegio San Agustin Makati High School boys’ basketball team. “Once a Bulldog, always a Bulldog.
