Former SNP Chief Executive Pleads Guilty to Embezzling £400,000
Peter Murrell admitted taking the funds from the party between 2010 and 2023. He was remanded in custody at the High Court in Edinburgh and will be sentenced on June 23.
Peter Murrell, 61, pleaded guilty to embezzling £400,000 from the party at a hearing at the High Court in Edinburgh on Monday. The case had originally been listed for Glasgow in February. Prosecutors said the money was taken between August 2010 and January 2023.
Murrell arrived wearing a black suit and black tie.
He was handcuffed and taken into custody after the plea. The judge described the offence as a gross breach of trust.
Court papers stated the money was used to buy a motorhome, luxury goods and two cars. Murrell is the estranged husband of former SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon.
