Former Spurs Coach Provides Advice During Playoff Run
Gregg Popovich has attended practices and offered guidance to the San Antonio Spurs during their postseason series. The team advanced past the Western Conference finals and reached the NBA Finals.

According to guard De’Aaron Fox, Popovich told the group the team’s performance was not how the Spurs play basketball.
Popovich has attended practices and film sessions throughout the season. He has also sent text messages to players after games and met forward Victor Wembanyama at the airport following an ejection in the second round. After a Game 5 loss to the Thunder, Popovich texted guard Dylan Harper, who then scored 30 points in the next two games.
coached the Spurs from 1998 to 2014 and led the team to five NBA titles. He stepped aside in May 2025 after suffering a stroke in November 2024. The current head coach is 39 years old and in his first full season. The roster includes several players in their early 20s, including Wembanyama, Fox, Harper, and Stephon Castle.
