winnipegfreepress.comThe South Carolina Gamecocks secured the first commitment of their 2028 recruiting class when four-star wide receiver Joseph "Jet" Gibbs pledged to the program on July 8, 2026, yardbarker.com reported. Gibbs, ranked the 45th receiver in the 2028 class by the 247Sports Composite, stands 6-foot-1 and 187 pounds. He attends Southeast Alamance High School in Haw River, North Carolina.
As a sophomore he caught six passes for 159 yards and two touchdowns on offense while also playing cornerback on defense and qualifying for the state meet in the 100-meter dash. South Carolina recruited Gibbs as a wide receiver who will be coached by Mike Furrey.
Gibbs said the decision rested on relationships with the coaches, his experience with Furrey, the campus, proximity to home, and head coach Shane Beamer's energy.
"The big reasons I committed to South Carolina is because I have a great relationship with the coaches, I loved the experience and the way Coach Furrey coaches, I love the campus, and it's close to home," Gibbs told GamecockCentral. "I've been to South Carolina twice, and I loved how I felt at home each time I came and really could visualize myself going there.
The environment was really inviting and welcoming.
Coach Beamer is a really hyper coach and really motivating.
