Four states hold primaries Tuesday including Maine Senate and two governor races

primary Maine Democrat Graham Platner is the only candidate listed on the Senate ballot after Democratic Gov. Janet Mills suspended her campaign weeks ago. Platner built a financial and polling lead before the suspension. Platner has faced questions over Reddit posts from 2009 to 2021 containing profane, racist and sexually inappropriate comments, as well as a tattoo that resembled a Nazi symbol.
He told MS NOW that some recent allegations are not true and said he covered the tattoo after learning its significance late last year. Early voting began May 14. Some Democrats have expressed concern that the controversies could affect the party’s chances in November.
South Carolina Senate primary Republican Sen.
Lindsey Graham is seeking a fifth term and has received an endorsement from President Trump. Businessman Mark Lynch, who has lent his campaign $5 million, and other candidates remain on the ballot. Democrats have nominated pediatrician Annie Andrews.
Governor primaries Maine’s Democratic primary for governor features a crowded field that includes former state health official Nirav Shah, former state Senate President Troy Jackson, Angus King III, Secretary of State Shenna Bellows and former state House Speaker Hannah Pingree.
Polls show no candidate near 50 percent, so ranked-choice voting will be used. The Republican primary in Maine also has multiple candidates, with former State Department official Bobby Charles leading recent polls. South Carolina’s Republican primary for governor will advance the top two candidates to a June 23 runoff if no one reaches a majority.
President Trump endorsed Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette in late May. Other candidates include state Attorney General Alan Wilson and Reps. Nancy Mace and Ralph Norman.
House districts Maine’s 2nd Congressional District, an open seat previously held by retiring Democrat Jared Golden, holds a primary Tuesday.
