France Sets 2027 Presidential Election Dates for April 18 and May 2

The first round of France's next presidential election will occur on April 18, 2027, with the runoff on May 2. Officials finalized the dates during a cabinet meeting on July 1. The constitution requires the election to take place at least 20 days and at most 35 days before the outgoing president's term expires.

With the term ending at midnight on May 14, 2027, the two possible date sets were April 11 and 25, or April 18 and May 2.

Officials said the option aligned with requests for an additional week of campaigning. The election will fall during spring school holidays under either schedule.

Officials noted concerns that holiday timing could affect voter participation. No further scheduling changes were announced.
