France and UK Offer to Lead Naval Mission for Strait of Hormuz
France and the UK announced they will lead a multinational naval effort to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. The announcement comes after the U.S. and Iran reached a peace agreement that will reopen the waterway on its own.
france24.comFrance and the UK said they will lead a naval mission involving around 20 countries to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. The announcement was made at the G7 summit in France on Monday.
Earlier meetings among roughly 30 to 51 countries produced no ships for the waterway. Officials from France and the UK declined to provide military assets during active fighting.
The strait is scheduled to reopen Friday under the terms of that deal.

The Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier is expected to arrive after the reopening has already taken effect.
