Freedom 250 Details Patriot Games for August with $250,000 Scholarships

Freedom 250 announced topline details this month for the Patriot Games, a competition for high school athletes that President Donald Trump first announced in December. The event is scheduled for August 9-11 in Washington, D.C. Participants must be high school students aged 14 to 17.

One male athlete and one female athlete from each state or territory will compete after advancing through an application process that requires basic information, social media handles if applicable, and a video explaining interest in the event, the role of sports in their lives, and the meaning of the scholarship.

Selected athletes will receive an all-expense-paid trip for themselves and one chaperone. The competition will stream on the ESPN app, with a one-hour primetime broadcast on ABC on August 13.

They will split a $250,000 scholarship prize pool. Trump stated in an announcement video that the competition would bar transgender participation in women's categories.

"I promise there will be no men playing in women's sports. You're not going to see that," he said. Trump also said the event would be led by Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Forbes reported that Freedom 250, a Trump-backed organizer of events tied to the 250th anniversary of the United States, released the application and broadcast details.
