Freeland Becomes Rockies’ All-Time Innings Leader in 12-4 Loss to Brewers
The left-hander passed Aaron Cook's mark during a June 7 start against the Milwaukee Brewers. Freeland reached 1,313 1/3 career innings with the franchise.
ESPNKyle Freeland became the Colorado Rockies' all-time leader in innings pitched on June 7, 2026, when he induced a fly out from Luis Rengifo in the fifth inning against the Milwaukee Brewers. The out gave Freeland 1,312 2/3 innings for his career, moving him one-third of an inning ahead of Aaron Cook, who recorded 1,312 1/3 innings for Colorado from 2002 to 2011.
Freeland finished the day with five innings pitched and three runs allowed in a no-decision.
The Brewers defeated the Rockies 12-4, completing a three-game sweep in Denver. Freeland, a 33-year-old Denver native drafted by the Rockies with the eighth overall pick in the 2014 first-year player draft, made his major league debut on April 7, 2017, against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
He now holds franchise marks for games started with 242 and quality starts with 112, while ranking second in strikeouts with 989 and fourth in wins with 66.
After the out that broke the record, Freeland stepped off the mound and tipped his cap to cheering fans and to his family in the stands. "I kind of thought of Buddy, that he'd love for me to tip the cap," Freeland said. " "Being a Denver kid, it's kind of crazy," Freeland added.
"I don't know if it's fully soaked in yet. " Freeland signed a five-year contract extension in April 2022 that runs through the 2026 season and carries a player option for 2027 if he reaches 170 innings this year. "What a long career he's had," Rockies manager Warren Schaeffer said.
"To set a franchise record like that, it takes a lot of durability, a lot of resilience, a lot of success.
