A French court has found two passengers guilty of causing major disruption aboard a Ryanair service bound for Ibiza on May 17, 2025. The Toulouse Criminal Court delivered its verdict on May 7, 2026, sentencing the pair to suspended prison terms of up to ten months and imposing combined financial penalties exceeding €10,000, equivalent to more than £8,500.

Their conduct forced the aircraft to divert to Toulouse, cutting short the journey for other travellers heading to the Spanish island. The two individuals directed abuse at other passengers and refused to comply with instructions from cabin crew during the flight, identified as FR9251.

This left the airline with no option but to reroute the plane to the French city. The diversion affected more than 184 passengers, many of them families and groups of friends travelling for summer holidays to the popular Balearic destination, along with six crew members.

The company expressed satisfaction with the court's decision. A company spokesperson said the outcome demonstrates consequences for troublesome flyers and described it as unacceptable for holidaymakers to suffer disruption caused by unruly behaviour.

The airline reiterated its commitment to maintaining a comfortable environment for the overwhelming majority of well-behaved passengers.

A company spokesman emphasised that Ryanair operates a strict zero-tolerance approach to misconduct and will pursue action against those who cause problems in the air. The spokesperson added that the airline welcomes the verdict from the Toulouse Criminal Court convicting the two disruptive passengers.

The incident is part of a broader pattern of passenger misconduct affecting the airline. Ryanair's chief executive recently stated the carrier experiences nearly one diversion every day due to such behaviour, a rise from approximately once per week a decade ago.

He questioned the practice of airport bars serving alcohol in the early morning hours before flights.
