French MEP Glucksmann Uses Book Tour to Gauge 2027 Presidential Support
Center-left European Parliament member Raphaël Glucksmann is promoting a new book and holding a rally near Paris to test interest in a 2027 presidential run. He has not formally declared his candidacy.
Le MondeThe book calls for a "patriotic awakening." Glucksmann has not formally declared he is running.
Glucksmann told Le Monde that June will be decisive.
He said he must generate enthusiasm and convince other left-wing groups to back him. He faces competition from radical-left figure Jean-Luc Mélenchon, who is already campaigning.
An internal campaign memo that leaked recommended avoiding outreach to working-class and young voters. Glucksmann rejected that approach. "I have always hated electoral segmentation, which is problematic and ineffective," he said. He added that he has urged activists to reach voters in working-class suburbs who do not support La France Insoumise and residents of medium-sized cities who are not aligned with the Rassemblement National.
