French Open Relocates Advertising Boards at Roland Garros After Player Feedback on Court Setup
Organizers relocated the boards on Saturday following complaints and injuries to players Katie Boulter and Zeynep Sonmez. The change places the signs on top of the tarps at the back of the courts.
ESPNFrench Open organizers moved advertising boards on the courts at Roland Garros on Saturday after players tripped over the signs and voiced safety concerns. The boards had been placed in front of the folded court covers. They were relocated to the top of the tarps at the back of the courts.
Organizers issued a statement on Friday acknowledging player feedback. They stated that the courts exceed the international circuit minimum requirements regarding the distance between the baseline and the back of the court. "However, the tournament's priority remains the well-being of the players taking part," the statement said.
British player Katie Boulter tripped over the foot-high Lacoste signs during her match on Thursday. " Turkey's Zeynep Sonmez tripped over the same signs during her match on Friday. She needed two stitches and bruised her knee, and was forced to abandon her women's doubles match after only two games due to injury.
Sonmez backed Boulter's call for change. Iga Swiatek also voiced concerns about the setup. " Swiatek said.
