French singer Patrick Bruel faces new sexual abuse complaints

Two women filed complaints Friday alleging rape, attempted rape and sexual assault against French singer Patrick Bruel, prosecutors and the women's lawyer said Saturday. One complaint accuses Bruel of attempted rape and sexual assault at a film festival in the overseas territory of La Réunion in 2007. The second complaint alleges rape and sexual assault in 2012.

Earlier charges Investigating judges charged Bruel on Wednesday with rape, attempted rape, sexual assault and sexual harassment in four cases. Three cases involve alleged acts in France and one in Belgium. The same judges said Bruel would be investigated but not charged in four additional cases, including two suspected rapes. A ninth case was deemed too old to prosecute.

Additional complaints Another 13 people have accused Bruel of rape, attempted rape, sexual assault and sexual harassment between 1992 and 2008. Prosecutors have not yet determined whether those cases fall within the statute of limitations. Three further complaints, two for rape and one for attempted rape, are also expected or have been filed.

Bruel remains under judicial supervision and is barred from leaving French territory.
