m. EDT on Monday, June 29. At that moment the moon will be below the horizon for North America, so observers will first see it at moonrise shortly after sunset. Moonrise times vary by location. m. m. PDT. Viewers should choose an unobstructed southeastern horizon for the best sight lines.
The moon will be at a distance of 252,442 miles from Earth, making it the second-smallest full moon of 2026. Despite the smaller size, the moon illusion can make it appear larger when it sits low against foreground objects.
The full moon arrives just after the June solstice, placing it on a shallow path across the southern sky in the Northern Hemisphere. In the Southern Hemisphere the same moon will rise higher and mark the first full moon of winter. Other names include Berries Ripen Moon, Green Corn Moon and Hot Moon.
The next full moon, called the Buck Moon, will occur on July 29.
A total solar eclipse visible from eastern Greenland, western Iceland and northern Spain is scheduled for August 12, coinciding with the peak of the Perseid meteor shower.
