He noted that Cormier made the same transition from Olympic wrestling to MMA that he is attempting. "I would love to get some one-on-one training with DC," Steveson said. "I've always told Jon that DC is a fantastic fighter, and he's one of my top two fighters of all time.
Jones has mentored Steveson since the wrestler moved into MMA. Jones defeated Cormier by unanimous decision at UFC 182 and by head-kick knockout at UFC 214 in 2017, though the second result was later overturned after Jones failed a drug test. Cormier won UFC titles in both the heavyweight and light heavyweight divisions.
Steveson is 3-0 in sanctioned MMA competition and recorded a 15-second knockout of Billy Swanson in a Dirty Boxing Championship bout.
