France 24Gaël Monfils played the final match of his career at Roland Garros on Monday and lost to fellow Frenchman Hugo Gaston. The score was 6-2, 6-3, 3-6, 2-6, 6-0. Monfils had announced at the start of the season that 2026 would be his last on tour.

Match and atmosphere After taking a 5-3 lead in the fourth set, Monfils waved to the crowd of nearly 15,000 at Philippe-Chatrier court. Fans responded with repeated "Ga-el, Ga-el" chants and "Staying Alive" played over the loudspeakers. Gaston won the deciding set 6-0. Dozens of spectators wore "Merci Gael" shirts.
