Gambia and Senegal Sign Cooperation Agreements on Energy, Borders and Digital Economy
Presidents Adama Barrow and Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye concluded the 4th Senegalo-Gambian Presidential Council in Dakar on 15 June 2026 with multiple bilateral accords.
japantimes.co.jpThe Gambia and Senegal signed cooperation agreements covering energy, border management, the digital economy, youth development, technology, culture and tourism, and higher education, research, science and technology on 15 June 2026. The accords were concluded as President Adama Barrow and President Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye wrapped up the 4th Senegalo-Gambian Presidential Council in Dakar.
The Council serves as the highest decision-making body for bilateral cooperation between the two nations.
He reaffirmed The Gambia's commitment to fully implementing the agreements. President Barrow also urged stronger collaboration in defence and security, trade and investment, agriculture, fisheries, transport, health, education, environment, digital transformation, and border management. President Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye described the Council as a results-oriented mechanism.
He cited the Senegambia Bridge and the Senelec-NAWEC electricity interconnection as tangible examples of joint action. Both governments agreed to establish joint working groups to coordinate, monitor, and fast-track commitments adopted during the Council session.
