Gauff and Krejcikova Advance at Wimbledon After Saving Match Points

Coco Gauff defeated Solana Sierra 6-3, 3-6, 7-6(7) in the second round at Wimbledon on July 1. ESPN reported that Gauff trailed by a break in the third set and was two points from defeat when Sierra served at 5-4. She won three straight points to break back and then trailed 7-4 in the 10-point tiebreaker before taking the final six points, sealing the victory with an ace.

Gauff said she reminded herself she was a strong returner when Sierra served for the match. She added that she tried to stay positive throughout the contest. The win moved Gauff into the third round.

Barbora Krejcikova defeated Mirra Andreeva 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 in another second-round match on Centre Court. ESPN reported that Andreeva saved six match points before Krejcikova converted her fourth break point in a long game. Krejcikova's winning shot clipped the net cord and landed in, after which Andreeva threw her racket and later smashed it into her bag.

Krejcikova said the contest was a remarkable match. Naomi Osaka defeated Anastasia Gasanova 6-3, 6-2, while Aryna Sabalenka beat McCartney Kessler 6-1, 7-6(9) after saving two set points and converting her third match point in the tiebreaker.
