General Motors Recalls Over 40,000 Vehicles Over Brake Fluid Defect
General Motors is recalling 40,440 vehicles in the United States because sediment in the brake fluid increases the risk of a crash. The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced the recall on Thursday. The action follows a separate recall last month for more than 270,000 Chevrolet Malibu vehicles over a rearview camera defect.
claimsjournal.comGeneral Motors is recalling 40,440 vehicles across the U.S. due to sediment in the brake fluid that increases the risk of a crash, the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced on Thursday.
The specific vehicle models included in the recall have not been identified. The latest recall comes one month after the company initiated a separate action affecting more than 270,000 Chevrolet Malibu cars from model years 2023 to 2025. That recall addressed a defect in the rearview camera system that could cause the display to show a distorted or entirely blank image.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, a malfunctioning rearview image significantly compromises a motorist's ability to see behind their vehicle and elevates the risk of a collision. A safety recall report from the agency stated that the supplier identified a flaw in the bonding process used for the camera housing.
Combined with the camera's mounting configuration, this flaw could allow moisture to penetrate the unit.
The company has stated it is not aware of any accidents or injuries linked to the camera fault. Owners of the affected Malibu vehicles will be able to have their rearview cameras replaced free of charge at authorized dealerships. Notification letters are scheduled to be sent to owners beginning 18 May.
For further assistance, Chevrolet customer service can be reached at 1-800-222-1020. The NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline is available at 1-888-327-4236, and additional information is posted on the agency's website at www.nhtsa.gov.
