The Deer Lake HOA said it explored relocation options but found no trappers willing to move the animals. The HOA contacted more than 10 wildlife trappers in North Georgia. None agreed to relocate the beavers, according to a letter the board sent to residents.
Rodriguez, who lives in the subdivision, said she opposes killing the animals. "I don’t like the idea of killing animals," she told WSB-TV. Daniel Walsh, another resident, said neighbors have expressed similar views on the subdivision’s Facebook page.
"We can’t just kill beavers just because they’re here. We should relocate them," he said. Clark Bond, who also lives in the neighborhood, said the traps represent the most humane option available. He noted that some residents find the idea of killing the animals upsetting.
Department of Natural Resources rules, relocated beavers may only be released on private property. The HOA letter stated that no property owners or organizations were willing to accept the animals. The HOA said the traps are temporary and will remain in place for only a few more weeks. So far, the traps have caught one beaver.
