German soccer player Thomas Müller said he was delayed while trying to bike to a training session because of traffic from the New York Knicks ticker-tape parade. Müller posted an Instagram Story on Thursday showing crowds of fans and stated the parade was "massive." He noted the Knicks were "too strong this year."
Thousands of fans lined the Canyon of Heroes route, and police officers were present to maintain order, according to the department. Chants directed at an opposing player and an appearance by a Knicks player's dog were among the reported elements of the event.
Müller's schedule Müller retired from the German national team in 2024 and is not participating in the 2026 World Cup. He joined the Vancouver Whitecaps in 2025 after 25 years with Bayern Munich and is in New York for World Cup-related events. Germany is scheduled to play Ecuador on June 25 at MetLife Stadium. The team has not yet announced its lodging arrangements.
