Germany Names 26-Player Squad for 2026 World Cup

Germany announced a 26-player squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup on May 31. The roster features goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, who returned from international retirement, and young midfielders Jamal Musiala and Florian Wirtz. Germany qualified for the tournament by winning five of six matches in its group. The team opens group play on June 14 against Curacao in Houston, Texas.

The squad lists three goalkeepers:

Manuel Neuer of Bayern Munich, Oliver Baumann of Hoffenheim, and Alexander Nubel of Stuttgart. Defenders include captain Joshua Kimmich, Antonio Rudiger, and Nico Schlotterbeck. Midfielders listed are Jamal Musiala, Florian Wirtz, Lennart Karl, and Leon Goretzka. Forwards include Kai Havertz, Nick Woltemade, and Maximilian Beier.

Germany plays Ivory Coast on June 20 in Toronto and Ecuador on June 25 in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The team last reached the knockout stage in 2014. Nagelsmann said Neuer brings “aura and quality” to the squad. Germany has appeared in 20 previous World Cups and won the title four times.
