Germany Records 751 Group Rape Cases in 2025; 509 of 1,087 Suspects Are German Citizens

Germany recorded 751 cases categorized as group rapes in 2025, according to the federal government’s response to a parliamentary inquiry submitted by the opposition Alternative für Deutschland party. Police identified 1,087 suspects in those cases, including 509 German citizens and 578 non-German nationals.

Syrians formed the largest group of non-German suspects with 110, followed by Afghans with 64, Iraqis with 46 and Turks with 44.

The government noted that the figures represent suspects identified during police investigations rather than convictions. In Nuremberg, investigators have continued an operation known as EKO Kajal. Bavarian police stated in May that men near the city’s main railway station allegedly approached girls from unstable backgrounds, initially offering attention, clothing or cosmetics.

As of the most recent update, ten suspects were held in pretrial detention in cases involving alleged sexual offenses against girls and young women and the distribution of drugs or medication to minors. Police alleged that a 21-year-old Syrian man raped two girls, ages 15 and 18, in a Nuremberg apartment after a 40-year-old Syrian man gave them narcotics. Both men were detained.

Germany’s Syrian population included 7,959 physicians working in the country at the end of 2025, making Syrians the largest group of foreign doctors, the German Medical Association reported. The ifo Institute stated in February 2025 that its analysis of district-level police data from 2018 through 2023 found no correlation between a rising foreign population and local crime rates.
