Ghislaine Maxwell Files New Petition Challenging 2021 Conviction

Ghislaine Maxwell filed a petition in federal court arguing that documents released under the Epstein Files Transparency Act expose constitutional and legal violations that render her 2021 sex-trafficking conviction invalid. Maxwell, who is serving a 20-year sentence at a federal prison camp in Texas, contends the newly disclosed records expand the evidentiary record beyond what was available at trial and on appeal.

Federal prosecutors filed a nearly 100-page rebuttal stating that the claims are speculative, factually erroneous, and procedurally barred. The filing concedes some documents were not previously provided to Maxwell's attorneys but maintains that none amount to legal violations or would have changed the verdict.

Maxwell replied that the government minimized each category of evidence individually rather than assessing the cumulative effect of the post-trial disclosures.

Maxwell initially filed a habeas petition in December and later amended it after the Justice Department released more than three million Epstein-related files. She is representing herself and has asked the court, if it rejects the petition, to certify the case for appeal. If the petition fails, her remaining options would likely be limited to a request for presidential pardon or clemency.
