Giant Eagle Cuts Prices on More Than 300 Grocery Items

Giant Eagle lowered prices on more than 300 items from July 9 through Sept. 9 at stores in western Pennsylvania, north central Ohio, northern West Virginia, Maryland and Indiana. The cuts include Certified Angus Beef 75% lean ground beef, which fell from $6.69 to $5.99 per pound, and select Evian water six-packs, which dropped from $10.29 to $6.99.

Walmart announced price reductions on July 6 across most of its 4,614 U.S. stores. Examples include fresh 73% ground beef rolls, which fell from $6.74 to $5.94 per pound, and 24-packs of Coca-Cola products, which dropped from $14.97 to $9.97.

Sam’s Club, owned by Walmart, announced rollbacks on more than 250 items on July 6 across its 601 U.S. stores. Member’s Mark bone-in chicken wings fell from $2.88 to $2 per pound, and Member’s Mark beef hot dogs fell from $12.96 to $10.86.

Stop & Shop announced price rollbacks on thousands of items on May 18 across its 137 stores in New York and New Jersey. The company later extended the reductions to more than 350 stores in five northeastern states. Eight-count Nathan’s beef franks fell from $7.99 to $5.79, and beef top round London broil fell from $10.79 to $7.99 per pound.

Grocery costs rose 3% over the year through June, according to Labor Department data. A LendingTree survey earlier in 2026 found that 49% of Americans said it was difficult to afford food. Justin Weinstein, Giant Eagle’s executive vice president and chief merchandising and marketing officer, said the company knows customers are seeking value amid elevated expenses.

Roger Wheeler, Stop & Shop president, said the company remained steadfast in making the investment even as economic uncertainties persist. President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social on July 19 that Giant Eagle and Walmart answered his call to lower costs for working families.
