news.gallup.comA larger share of adults worldwide now say their communities are good places for minority groups to live, according to a Gallup World Poll released Thursday. The 2025 poll found 74 percent of respondents viewed their communities as good places for racial and ethnic minorities, 66 percent for immigrants, and 40 percent for gay and lesbian people.
The gay and lesbian category showed the largest increase since the survey began in 2006, when only 23 percent gave a positive response.
The poll interviewed about 1,000 adults in each of roughly 140 countries between March 27 and December 5. Margins of error ranged from 2.2 to 5.5 percentage points.
Higher acceptance ratings correlated with positive views on city satisfaction, safety, and respect for women and children. Gallup researchers stated the data do not prove causation. Immigrants living in the U.S. were the most likely group to say their communities welcome migrants, with 96 percent giving a positive response in 2024 and 2025 surveys.
Oman, the United Arab Emirates, and Canada recorded 91 percent on the same measure, ahead of the U.S. The global median among immigrants was 78 percent.
