Golden Globes Will Not Disqualify AI-Assisted Films, TV Shows or Podcasts

The Golden Globes has issued new eligibility rules stating that the use of artificial intelligence, including generative AI, will not disqualify a film, TV show or podcast from award consideration. According to the guidelines, the technology can be used as long as human creative direction guides the authorship and production process.

This applies to filmmakers, TV creators, performers and podcast producers. For acting performances, AI is only allowed to enhance the credited performer and only with their permission. Performances cannot be generated using digital likeness, voice replication or biometric data.

The organization draws a line between AI-assisted and AI-replaced creativity. The new guidelines reflect the industry's use of AI tools while setting boundaries to protect creatives.

Submissions for award consideration open on June 1 and must be submitted by October. The 2027 Golden Globes is scheduled to air on Sunday, Jan. 10, on CBS and will be streamed on Paramount+.
