Golden State Valkyries Extend Win Streak to Eight with 88-75 Victory Over Indiana Fever

The Indiana Fever lost to the Golden State Valkyries 88-75 on Wednesday night in Indianapolis. Caitlin Clark drove to the basket for a layup midway through the second quarter, made contact with Kiah Stokes, and hit the floor. The basket counted but no foul was called.

Clark threw a fist in the air and ran toward an official after the play. She later said the referee told her she initiated the contact. "Which is fine, but you can't knee me in the leg. Knock me over," Clark said.

She added that she then had to play with a contusion in her leg for the rest of the game. Clark finished with 13 points, six assists and three rebounds in 26 minutes while shooting 4-for-14 from the field and 1-for-8 from three-point range. She has sat out three of the past six games and played under minutes restrictions in the others due to a back injury.

Kelsey Mitchell led the Fever with 20 points and Aliyah Boston added 15 points and seven rebounds. The Valkyries improved to an eight-game win streak, the longest active in the league. They have held opponents to 75 points or fewer 12 times this season and are 11-1 in those games.

Gabby Williams scored 16 points and Kaitlyn Chen added 14 off the bench for Golden State. Coach Stephanie White said officials told her Clark initiated the contact and added that the team continues to ask for consistency. Valkyries coach Natalie Nakase said the team is focused on preparing for future games rather than the current streak.
