Google announced plans to integrate AI agents into its search engine at the I/O conference. The agents will monitor user requests and send alerts even when users are offline. New tools will also generate custom visualizations and interactive widgets.

Google vice president of product Robby Stein said the agents can perform work for users without active input. He gave the example of a user asking to be updated on favorite athletes' sneaker releases. When a matching item appears, the agent sends a notification with purchase options.

Reid, who leads Search at Google, said users will be able to create and manage multiple AI agents directly in Search. One example involves an agent that tracks stock market trends and sends alerts when specific conditions are met. The feature will first reach subscribers of Google AI Pro and Ultra plans this summer.

Google also plans to expand booking agents that can contact local businesses for price quotes. The company said these agents will gather information even when details are not listed online. An updated version of its Antigravity coding tool will create custom answer layouts and interactive elements later this summer.

Google previously introduced AI Overviews in 2024 and AI Mode last year. Both features reduced the need for users to click through multiple web links. The new agent capabilities represent a further step in automating information gathering. The company stated it is not attempting to replace web page links.

Expanded versions of the new tools will first be available to Google AI plan subscribers in the United States this summer.
