Google Adds Android App Creation Tools to AI Studio
Google announced new web-based tools in AI Studio that generate native Android apps. The features reduce setup and coding time from weeks to minutes and include discovery options in the Play Store and Gemini.
9to5google.comGoogle announced new capabilities in its web-based AI Studio that let users generate native Android apps in minutes. The tools use the Kotlin programming language and Google’s Jetpack Compose toolkit. They support integration with hardware sensors including GPS, Bluetooth, and NFC.
Users can preview apps inside an embedded Android Emulator in a web browser. They can then install the apps on Android phones via USB using the Android Debug Bridge. AI Studio can also create app records, package bundles, and upload projects to an internal testing track in Google Play Console.
Google said consumers will be able to find apps through a new “Ask Play” AI overlay in the Play Store and through conversations with the Gemini assistant. The company stated that apps will surface in Gemini on the web and on Android in the coming weeks.
Later this year, Gemini will also link users to more than 450,000 movies and TV shows. Google plans to add support for publishing apps to family and friends and for Firebase integrations. Projects can currently be exported as zip files to GitHub for further work in Android Studio.
