Users set up the feature by describing the event they want detected in natural language and selecting which cameras should monitor for it. Google recommends describing objects that are clearly visible and notes that cameras require a brief processing moment. The company advises against using the feature for instant alerts, time-sensitive situations, or security and safety purposes.
Users can instruct the system to watch for “raccoons near the trash bins” and turn on exterior lights, or to notify them when mail is delivered. Other examples include detecting a specific vehicle entering the driveway or recognizing people when the Friendly Faces feature is enabled.
Gemini for Home can also execute multiple actions from a single voice command, such as lowering blinds, dimming lights, starting a timer, and playing a podcast.
