Google Introduces Universal Cart for AI-Assisted Shopping
Google released the Universal Cart feature at its annual developer conference. The tool integrates shopping across Search, Gemini, YouTube, and Gmail. It will begin rolling out in the United States this summer.
forbes.comGoogle announced the Universal Cart at its annual developer conference. The feature functions as an intelligent shopping cart that operates across multiple Google services. Universal Cart allows users to add items from different merchants while browsing Search, using the Gemini app, watching YouTube, or checking Gmail.
It works in the background to locate deals, update inventory, identify item incompatibilities, and apply loyalty discounts.
The feature will launch across Search and the Gemini app in the United States this summer. Participating retailers include Nike, Sephora, Target, Ulta Beauty, Walmart, Wayfair, and Shopify merchants such as Fenty and Steve Madden. Users can complete purchases through Google Pay or transfer items to a merchant site.
The system also incorporates the Agent Payments Protocol to handle secure transactions.
Google stated that people shop across its platforms more than a billion times a day. The company cited its Shopping Graph, which contains over 60 billion product listings. Vidhya Srinivasan, vice-president of ads and commerce, said shopping can become more powerful and intelligent as technology advances.
The announcement follows an earlier partnership between Google and Shopify on the Universal Commerce Protocol.
