Google announced it will release smart glasses this autumn, more than a decade after the company withdrew its earlier Google Glass product. The new glasses include a small camera in the frames and speakers in the arms that allow users to interact with Google's Gemini AI through voice.

The glasses will be offered in one style designed by Warby Parker and another by Gentle Monster. They are designed to provide spoken assistance from Gemini without requiring users to look at a screen.

The glasses will function with both Android and iOS devices. A Google executive stated that the product is intended to deliver private audio assistance throughout the day. Google is also developing a version with an in-lens display that can show text and other information. That model is not scheduled for release this year, though the company said additional details will be provided later in 2026.

Similar smart glasses from Meta have sold seven million pairs. Those products have raised privacy questions because users can record video without others knowing. Snap is expected to release a new version of its smart glasses this year. Apple is also reported to be developing a glasses product.

Investor Christine Tsai of 500 Global said the Google product could benefit consumers and early-stage startups by serving as a platform for new applications. Developer Anil Shah said the glasses could integrate services such as Google Maps and Google Voice.
