Govee removed a lifestyle image from its website after a reader identified two copies of a book titled State of White Supremacy on the spine. The image showed a child's bedroom and had been live since at least April 11, 2026. Govee PR manager Connie Liu said the image was sourced from an undisclosed third-party licensed library.

She stated that the company's internal review process did not meet required standards and that immediate steps were being taken to strengthen those processes.

The image was removed shortly after The Verge sent an inquiry. Archived versions of the site confirm the image had been present for more than six weeks. Liu said Govee sincerely apologized for the offensive content and committed to ensuring all platform content aligns with the company's values of respect and integrity.

The same book appeared on a British hardware retailer's website in 2023, prompting a similar apology from that company after a third-party vendor listing was flagged.
