Government Approves Unit to Assist New Immigrants in Israeli Military
The Israeli government approved a dedicated unit inside the Aliyah and Integration Ministry to support new immigrants serving in the military. The unit will provide guidance before, during, and after service, with special attention to lone soldiers.
montrealgazette.comThe new unit will specialize in guidance and support for immigrant soldiers, with emphasis on lone soldiers. Assistance will be provided before, during, and after military service.
The unit follows a significant rise in the number of new immigrants who have chosen to move to Israel since October 7, 2023, many of whom have enlisted in the military, including in combat roles. The unit will also assist families of soldiers living outside Israel through guidance, mediation, and support.
Officials stated that the unit will not reduce the authority of the military, the Defense Ministry, or any other official body.
The Aliyah and Integration Minister said he had met with parents of lone soldiers from France, the United Kingdom, and the United States since October 7. He stated that the conversations showed the need for broader, more accessible, and better coordinated support for their children serving alone.
He said their decision to enlist represents an immense contribution to the security of the state. He stated that the government resolution aims to bridge this gap and provide a supportive network for the soldiers and their families.
