Greek airspace handled 5,082 flights on 18 July 2026, the highest daily total ever recorded in the ATHINAI FIR/HELLAS UIR, Euronews reported. This surpassed the previous record of 4,944 flights set on 10 August 2024. The Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority said air traffic controllers managed the volume while maintaining high safety standards and following national, European and international regulations.
An earlier mark of 4,916 flights set in August 2025 had already been broken on 4 July 2026, when 4,925 flights were logged. Current flight-planning data shows the increase is expected to continue through August and the first two weeks of September 2026.
