Greek authorities arrested a 37-year-old Palestinian-born man on Saturday night in Crete on charges of joining Hamas and receiving training for terrorist purposes. The Hellenic Police said the arrest was carried out by the Greek Anti-Terrorist Service and the National Intelligence Service. Officers also raided homes in Athens.

Laboratory equipment was recovered during the searches. The suspect had ordered explosives online and had training in the manufacture of synthetic explosives, the police statement said. The man resided in Crete.

Hellenic Police issued the statement on Sunday. The investigation is ongoing. The individual is allegedly linked to others suspected of terrorism offenses in other European countries.
