Guadalupe River Flooding Kills One in Central Texas

At least one person died in flooding across central Texas on or before 16 July 2026. The death occurred along the Guadalupe River in the same region that recorded more than 130 fatalities during flash floods last summer. Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced the fatality in a Thursday afternoon update.

He stated that about 80 rescues have been made and that the person killed was not a camper. Abbott added that the rapidly rising rivers will continue to rise throughout the day.

The Guadalupe River rose 32 feet in four hours, the Texas Tribune reported. Emergency officials encouraged residents to evacuate early Thursday morning. Authorities rescued dozens of people as river waters continued to rise, the Associated Press reported.

The flooding affected multiple counties in South Texas, including Uvalde, Kerr, and Kendall. Floodwaters engulfed the Rodeo Los Corrales Dance Hall in Comfort, Texas.

Last summer the Guadalupe River produced deadly flash floods over the Fourth of July holiday. At Camp Mystic, an all-girls camp near Kerrville along the river, the water rose 26 feet in about 45 minutes and swept away 25 children and two counselors.
