Gunman Kills Montreal Police Officer at Hilton Hotel Before Being Shot Dead

A gunman armed with a long gun opened fire at the Hilton hotel in Montreal's Côte-des-Neiges neighborhood on Monday morning, killing one police officer and seriously wounding another before officers returned fire and killed the suspect, police said.

A civilian also died in the shooting, though it was not immediately clear who fired the fatal shot. Police Chief Fady Dagher said the civilian death remains under investigation.

The slain officer was identified as Constable Mohamed Lamine Benredouan, 34, who had served on the force since 2021. It was the first time in 24 years that a Montreal police officer had been killed in the line of duty, Dagher told reporters. A second officer was seriously injured but later reported in stable condition.
