Gunman Wounds Ten in Tucson Shooting, Police Shoot Suspect

Tucson Police Department’s Public Information Officer Frank Magos said officers on foot patrol ran toward the sound of the gunfire and encountered the suspect. “Those officers immediately began running towards the sound of the gunfire and, in doing so, they came upon the suspect,” Magos stated.

“Officers gave that suspect repeated commands before, one of those officers discharged his department-issued firearm at the suspect, striking him,” he added.

Nine of the victims were adults struck in their extremities and taken to hospitals in critical condition. One additional person was also injured. The unidentified male suspect was transported to a hospital in life-threatening condition. The investigation remains ongoing.

Police urged witnesses to contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Office. Witnesses near the Highwire bar and Empire Pizzeria reported hearing gunshots followed by a large police presence.
