Hezbollah Launches Nighttime Drone Attacks on Israel
Hezbollah has deployed small drones equipped with thermal sensors for nighttime operations against Israeli positions. The attacks have prompted an emergency security meeting and led troops to improvise netting defenses.
Fox NewsHezbollah has launched waves of small nighttime drones against Israeli positions, according to defense expert Cameron Chell. The drones use thermal sensors to detect heat signatures and conduct strikes or surveillance after dark. Chell, chief executive of Draganfly, described the capability as game changing because it allows operations when visual detection is limited.
He said the drones belong to Category 1 and Category 2 sizes typically employed by ground units for immediate tactical missions.
Netanyahu convened an emergency security meeting on May 30 after a Hezbollah rocket and drone attack caught forces off guard. Reports described parts of the northern border region in chaos as rockets struck cities and drones targeted positions simultaneously.
Israeli soldiers have begun purchasing commercial fishing and soccer nets to entangle incoming drones. Chell said additional countermeasures such as electronic jamming and net guns will be required to protect installations and vehicles.
Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem has stated that the group's drones are effective against forces operating near and inside southern Lebanon. Netanyahu has also identified the drones as a significant detection challenge. Chell noted that equipment reaching Hezbollah may originate from multiple external sources and warned that nighttime operations will require changes in movement and tactics.
