HHS Sends Monoclonal Antibody Doses for Ebola Clinical Trial in Africa
The Department of Health and Human Services has sent doses of the monoclonal antibody MBP-134 to support a clinical trial. The trial protocol is under review by authorities in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda.

The Department of Health and Human Services has sent doses of the monoclonal antibody MBP-134 for use in a clinical trial targeting Ebola. The monoclonal, developed by San Diego-based MappBio with funding from BARDA, had already completed a Phase 1 safety trial. An HHS spokesperson did not specify how many doses were allocated for the trial.
Background on prior plans HHS previously indicated that some MBP-134 doses would be sent to Kenya for possible use at a U.S.-built quarantine facility for Americans exposed to Ebola. The Trump administration has stated it will not repatriate individuals infected with or exposed to Ebola to the United States. Infected Americans would instead be sent to undisclosed European countries for treatment.
Current outbreak status As of June 22, 2026, the Democratic Republic of the Congo reported 1,048 confirmed Ebola cases and 267 deaths.
